British F3: Hampus Ericsson Joins Double R for 2019

Hampus Ericsson will make the step up to the BRDC British F3 Championship full-time for 2019 after signing for Double R Racing.

The 16-year-old who made his debut at Donington Park last season, picking up a podium in his first weekend, will join the defending champions. He made a name for himself in 2017 when he won the Ford F4 Challenge Cup during his first year of single-seater competition.

Ericsson, younger brother of ex-Formula 1 driver Marcus Ericsson, has spent the last two years racing in the F4 British Championship on the ToCA support package. He would finish his debut season tenth with two podiums, despite missing three rounds, securing the Challenge Cup in the process.

2018 proved tougher for the Swede. He returned to the Fortec Motorsports team, though failed to collect any silverware before his mid-season switch to F3.

The move is similar to the route his brother Marcus did in 2009, when after a full season with Fortec in British F3, competed for Double R in three rounds of the 2009 season. He would go on to collect two race victories for the team that year, while also winning the Japanese F3 Championship.

He will join the team that helped Linus Lundqvist to the title last year, becoming their first signing of the season and BRDC F3’s fourth.

The Championship begins at Oulton Park on the 20^th April.
