4) George Russell – FIA Formula 2 Champion

One of the four World Champions us Brits had in 2018 and no one deserved it more. He wasn’t outstanding like Norris from the get go but back-to-back wins in the Baku sprint race and the Catalunya feature race kickstarted his superb run of form in the mid-season which resulted in an unassailable lead going into the final race at Abu Dhabi. And his brilliant season, tied with Mercedes backing, earnt him his own F1 seat with Williams for 2019.

3) Tai Woffinden – Speedway Grand Prix World Champion

Weren’t expecting this were you? Speedway isn’t covered here on Motorsport Radio but Woffy has had such a good season, he simply couldn’t be left out. He batted away challenges from both Sweden’s Freddie Lindgren and Poland’s Bartosz Zmarzlik to secure his third world title – the most by any British rider in history. He also led team GB to a silver medal at the Speedway of Nations as he top scored over the two nights on his return to the national side. He’s the one to beat in 2019.
