MotoGP: Italian Grand Prix – Who was where
At an unusually quiet Mugello MotoGP roared into life once again. After home hero Valentino Rossi had his number #46 retired on the Saturday could an Italian do the business on home soil.
Ducati Lenovo Team:
Francesco Bagnaia:
The new home hero and VR46 Academy member wins his first Italian Grand Prix in MotoGP. The Italian rider won his home Grand Prix on the Italian bike as well, like Petrucci and Dovizioso before him. After crashing out of second in Le Mans Bagnaia is back with a vengeance as he keeps his name in the mix.
Jack Miller:
While his Italian teammate battled for the win the Australian only managed to claim one point. Miller had an awful Italian Grand Prix for the factory Ducati squad. In a weekend when rumours have been flying around about Miller going to KTM, this poor result will likely see him not in Ducati red in 2023.

Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP:
Fabio Quartararo:
The French champion started from sixth place and not many expected Quartararo to contend for victory. However, nobody had told Quartararo this. The 23-year-old put on an incredible show in Mugello as he claimed second place in the Italian Grand Prix. Quartararo kept Bagnaia honest in the final laps, but had to settle for second place.
Franco Morbidelli:
Once again a disappointing weekend for Morbidelli. An even worse weekend since it was a home race for the Italian rider. While his teammate finished second he was lingering down in 17th place, outside of the points. Morbidelli needs to find solutions fast if he wants to improve.

Aprilia Racing:
Aleix Espargaro:
Another podium for the title contender. Espargaro put his Italian bike into the podium positions as he finished third place around Mugello. After qualifying in seventh Espargaro struggled to get through the armada of Ducati’s in front of him. But Espargaro put in a great ride once again.
Maverick Vinales:
An awful qualifying in Vinales saw him down in 24th on the grid. However, Vinales turned his weekend around in the race as he made his way through during the race. The Spaniard managed to claim a 12th place finish at his manufacturers home race.
Lorenzo Savadori:
The Aprilia test rider came to the Italian Grand Prix with a new rear wing to test for Aprilia. However, his race did not go amazingly. After starting 22nd place that is where he stayed throughout the race.

Prima Pramac Racing:
Johann Zarco:
The Frenchman started from an impressive fourth place on the grid. Zarco put on a good show for Pramac with their special purple livery. The French rider ran a fast pace and managed to cross the line in fourth place.
Jorge Martin:
The Spanish rider has had a poor season overall, and Mugello was no different. Martin qualified 11th, but started 14th due to a penalty. A 13th place finish was all that Martin could manage today to end a difficult race weekend.

Mooney VR46 Racing Team:
Marco Bezzecchi:
After putting his Ducati on the front row Bezzecchi looked like he would go strong. Which Bezzecchi did. The rookie MotoGP rider managed to fight for the victory in the early stages of the race. The young Italian rider put on a great show in Mugello as he finished fifth place.
Luca Marini:
Another Ducati on the front row was Luca Marini’s. Marini has had good qualifying performances in his career but has gone backwards. However, this weekend Marini put in an amazing race performance. The half-brother of local legend, Rossi, managed to secure and impressive sixth place around Mugello.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing:
Brad Binder:
The South African had a terrific race around Mugello. Once again Binder showed that he is a Sunday man. Binder started from 16th place on the grid but fought his way through the field and claimed a seventh place finish.
Miguel Oliveira:
The Portuguese rider had a great race just like his teammate had. Oliveira started from 15th place on the grid and went through the field with his teammate. Oliveira has been linked with a move away from KTM and a ninth place finish will definitely interest some teams in his services.

LCR Honda:
Takaaki Nakagami:
Nakagami has been putting in good results recently and continued today. The young Japanese rider qualified in eighth place. Nakagami held position throughout the race and finished as the top Honda in eighth place.
Alex Marquez:
The Spanish rider had a poor weekend once again. The LCR man may be on his way out of MotoGP at the end of 2022. Mugello saw Marquez qualify 18th. However, he did go forwards in the race and managed to finish 14th overall.

Repsol Honda Team:
Marc Marquez:
On Saturday afternoon Marquez announced that he would go for an operation in America tomorrow to fix his arm. However, he still took part in the Italian Grand Prix. The Spanish rider, who is disliked in Mugello, managed to claim a 10th place finish.
Pol Espargaro:
After confirming that he is talking to other manufacturers Espargaro had a disaster around Mugello. After a ninth place qualifying the Spanish rider found himself tumbling through the gravel after crashing at Arrabbiata.

Gresini Racing MotoGP:
Fabio Di Giannantonio:
The rookie on a year old Ducati outshone his teammate around Mugello. Di Gi put his GP21 on pole position for the first time in his MotoGP career. Di Giannantionio had a great race for a rookie as he finished 11th place in the Italian Grand Prix.
Enea Bastianini:
The Italian had looked so strong all year. However, the Italian Grand Prix is a blip on Bastianini’s record. The Italian came through the field from 10th, but crashed out while catching the leaders.

WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team:
Darryn Binder:
Another MotoGP rookie outperformed their experienced teammate in the satellite Yamaha squad. Binder had a decent weekend as he qualified 20th on the grid. The South African finished just outside of the points as he crossed the line in 16th place.
Andrea Dovizioso:
An experienced Italian at his home Grand Prix should have at least claimed points. However, Dovizioso had an awful weekend. The Italian started from last place in 26th and then finished 20th place in the race.

Aruba.it Racing:
Michelle Pirro:
The Ducati test rider wild carded this weekend at Mugello in a World Superbike Ducati livery. Pirro did not score points at a track he has plenty of experience around. The Italian rider finished 18th around his home circuit.

Tech3 KTM Factory Racing:
Remy Gardner:
After a poor French Grand Prix Gardner managed to finish the Italian Grand Prix. But it was not in a great position as he crossed the line in 19th place. The Tech3 rookie has had a tough rookie year.
Raul Fernandez:
The Spanish rookie is still the only full time rider not to score points in the 2022 season. The rookie has not had a good time with KTM at all in MotoGP. Around Mugello Fernandez could only manage a 21st place finish.

Team Suzuki Ecstar:
Alex Rins:
The Spanish rider now has two DNF’s in a row in 2022 as he crashed out of the Italian Grand Prix. Rins qualified in 21st place and had struggled all weekend just like his teammate.
Joan Mir:
Just like his Suzuki teammate Mir did not finish the Italian Grand Prix just like in France. Mir had an awful weekend in Mugello and never looked like he had pace around the Italian circuit.
