MotoGP: COTA latest Postponed Event as End of Season Stacked

The American Grand Prix, originally scheduled to take place over the first weekend in April has been postponed. 

Following the decision to cancel the opening round of the 2020 MotoGP season, along with rescheduling the Thai Grand Prix, the FIM have today announced that the third round of the season will also be postponed due to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak.

The Americas Grand Prix has been rescheduled from April 5th to November the 15th as it becomes the penultimate round of what is set to be a very tiring season.

With the reschedule of the Thai Grand Prix making it five races in six weeks, the MotoGP paddock now has to face more logistical nightmares as the American Grand Prix and the final round of the season in Valencia becomes back-to-back.

This means that the opening round of the season is now scheduled to take place in Argentina and the relatively new Termas De Rio Hondo circuit.

Although Argentina’s cases of the Coronavirus is relatively low, there is still a huge chance that the Argentine round may not take place, with Italy set to come out of their quarantine period two weeks prior. 

The shuffled calendar now makes it a hectic end of the season as Thailand reverts back to its original October slot, and America becoming the penultimate round of the season with Valencia rounding out the years racing action just seven days later.

The move puts questions over the logistics such a season would require, as the already tired teams will be face with five rounds in six weeks over three continents.
