MotoE: Aegerter Secures E-Pole for Second Jerez Race

Dominique Aegerter will start the second MotoE race of the season at Jerez from pole position. The rookie outqualified Matteo Ferrari by 0.267 sec with Lukas Tulovic a further tenth of a second behind.

Cup leader Eric Granado meanwhile finished just off the front row in fourth after a scare on his flying lap.

The E-Pole session took place in similar conditions to last week with 37°C air and 57°C track temperature.

E-Pole as it Happened

First out on track was Jakub Kornfeil (WithU Motorsport) who set an early marker of !:50.229. His time was subsequently beaten by numerous 1:49 laps with Josh Hook (Octo Pramac MotoE) holding on to the provisional pole with a 1:49.255.

Lukas Tulovic (Tech3 E-Racing) was first to break the 49 barrier with a time of 1:48.525, an incredible final sector giving him the lead. The rookie’s time endured the efforts of Xavier Simeon (LCR E-Team), Jordi Torres (Pons Racing 40) and Alejandro Medina (Openbank Aspar Team) and stood top until Matteo Ferrari (Trentino Gresini MotoE) took to the track.

The reigning World Cup champion claimed the lead with a 1:48.425 and was guaranteed a front row start when Alex de Angelis (Octo Pramac MotoE) and Mattia Casadei (Ongetta SIC58 Squadracorse) fell behind his time.

Eric Granado (Avintia Esponsorama Racing) and Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt Intact GP) were the final riders remaining to set their lap time. Last week’s pole sitter and race winner Granado was up by six hundredth after the second sector and looked on course for the lead. However, he lost time in sector three when his front tyre blocked at Turn 6 and he crossed the line in third.

As quickest in practice, Aegerter went out last and set best times throughout all sectors. The Swiss rider posted a lap time of 1:48.158 that secured him pole position.

Dominique Aegerter will start the MotoE race of the Andalucia GP from pole with Matteo Ferrari and Lukas Tulovic completing the front row.

Heading the second row is Eric Granado from Jordi Torres and Alejandro Medina. They line up in front of a fourth row of Alex de Angelis, Mattia Casadei and Niccolo Canepa. Rounding of the top 10 is Josh Hook who is top of the fourth row ahead of Xavi Cardelus and Xavier Simeon.

Starting from the penultimate row are Mike di Meglio, Alessandro Zaccone and Jakub Kornfeil with the grid being completed by Tomasso Marcon who missed his starting slot and Maria Herrera who had her lap time cancelled for exceeding track limits.
