Moto2: Fermin Aldeguer wins his first Grand Prix at Silverstone

Fermin Aldeguer finally wins his first-ever Grand Prix at Silverstone for Boscoscuro.

Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) was on pole position, by seventh-tenths of a second after a tricky qualifying. Fermin Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp) qualified in second position, with Zonta van der Goorbergh (Fieten Olie Racing GP) in third.

It was Fermin Aldeguer got the holeshot into turn one, leading Acosta and the rest of the field through. The lead did not last long Alonso Lopez (Beta Tools SpeedUp) soon took the race lead from his teammate Aldeguer.

There was a huge crash at the start involving Rory Skinner (OnlyFans American Racing), Taiga Hada (Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team KA), Boja Gomez (Fantic Racing), and Dennis Foggia (Italtrans Racing Team). The crash happened at Village after Borja Gomez couldn’t get the bike stopped on the wet grass.

There was more disappointment for the home crowd with Jake Dixon (Tensite GASGAS Aspar Team) crashing out. Contact between Dixon and Binder put Dixon out of the race and gave Binder a long-lap penalty.

Aron Canet (Pons Wegow Los40) was the rider on the move, setting the fastest lap of the race. The Spaniard soon made a pass for second before taking the race lead on lap four of the race.

Alonso Lopez would crash out of the race on his Boscoscuro after battling for the podium places.

Aron Canet tried to break away from the pack, trying to prove that he has the pace at the front. This failed and allowed Aldeguer and Acosta to catch onto the back of the 23-year-old.

Penalty for Canet

Aron Canet was forced to drop one position on lap 11, due to overtaking under yellow flags on lap two. Canet eventually found a way through two laps later to reclaim second position from Acosta.

Sam Lowes (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) had a quiet race down in seventh position after qualifying in ninth. Lowes was behind Manuel Gonzalez (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Mater Camp) who had a great ride. Both riders were involved in a four-bike battle for fourth position.

In fourth place was Joe Roberts (Italtrans Racing Team) who was having the best ride of his season so far. The American’s best result so far this year was 12^th in Le Mans and in Mugello earlier in the year.

Fermin Aldeguer continued to extend the gap to two and a half seconds from Aron Canet I second place. Acosta was in third with the top three positions looking decided on the final lap.

As the chequered flag flew Fermin Aldeguer took his first-ever Grand Prix race win in dominate style. At 18 years old the Spanish rider is finally a Moto2 race winner after coming so close last season in Argentina.

Aron Canet came home in second, unable to claim his first Moto2 race win, Pedro Acosta rounded of the podium. After being seen on crutches after the summer break, Acosta looked to be in discomfort in his foot.  

Moto2 will be back in action at the end of the month at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.
