Moto2: Fermin Aldeguer unstoppable in Thailand ahead of Acosta

Fermin Aldeguer dominates the Thailand Grand Prix ahead of Acosta.

Fermin Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp) was on pole position after an incredible lap in qualifying. Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and his teammate Albert Arenas (Red Bull KTM Ajo) joined him on the front row. Acosta could win the Championship if he scored 19 points more than Arbolino.

Fermin Aldeguer kept the race lead at the start with Acosta beginning to charge from behind. Marcos Ramirez (OnlyFans American Racing) jumped to third position at the start of the race. Ramirez looked incredibly strong throughout the weekend from the first practice session.

Aron Canet (Pons Wegow Los40) had an awful start to his race after jumping the start and dropping down the order. Canet also received a long lap penalty for the jump start, dropping him down to 11^th.

Alberto Surra (Forward Racing) was the first crasher of the Grand Prix after qualifying in 21^st position. Joe Roberts (Italtrans Racing Team) was the next crasher after a strong weekend for the American.

Home hero, Somkiat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia) eventually made his way into the podium places. Running in third position made the Thai Grand Prix crowd ecstatic for their home rider.

Championship contender, Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) was in sixth position in the middle point of the race. This was enough to take the Championship into the next round in Malaysia.

Jake Dixon (Inde GASGAS Aspar Team) had a horrific crash, hitting into the side of Vietti and resulting in a highside. Celestino Vietti (Fantic Racing) managed to stay onboard the Kalex machine but would crash a lap later.

Aldeguer extended his gap at the front of the field with a comfortable three-second lead with 10 laps remaining. Alonso Lopez (Beta Tools SpeedUp) had an aggressive opening to his race, moving up the order to seventh.

Both the Marc VDS machines had great late-race pace, with Arbolino pushing his way to fourth in the latter stage of the race. Sam Lowes (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) dropped down to 20^th at the start of the race. The British rider worked his way through the field to 14^th position in the points.

Rory Skinner (OnlyFans American Racing) had a disappointing qualifying, beginning the race from last position. Skinner fought his way through the intense Moto2 field to 20^th position in the race.

At the line, Fermin Aldeguer took the race win by over three seconds from Pedro Acosta in second. Somkiat Chantra ended his race on the podium in third at his home Grand Prix weekend.

Tony Arbolino finished in a heroic fourth position; this result was enough to keep his Championship hopes alive. Ai Ogura (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia) rounded out the top five after battling through the pack.

Marcos Ramirez dropped down to fifth position at the end of the race, struggling in the latter stage. Albert Arenas struggled in the opening part of the race but recovered to seventh place at the line.

Alonso Lopez rounded off a great weekend for the Speedup team and the Boscoscuro chassis and finished in eighth. Izan Guevara (Inde GASGAS Aspar Team) was the sole Aspar machine to finish the race in ninth. Guevara had an excellent result after having to work his way from 17^th. Manuel Gonzalez (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Team) finished in 10^th position in a tough weekend for the Spaniard.

The Championship rolls on in Moto2 with the riders set to race at Sepang in two weeks’ time.
