Moto2: Albert Arenas joins Gresini Racing in 2024

Albert Arenas will join the Gresini Moto2 team in 2024.

Albert Arenas will make the switch to Gresini Racing next season, continuing his Moto2 career. The Spaniard will join the historic Gresini team which is led by Luca Gresini in the Moto2 class.

This will be Arenas’ third team in his five seasons racing in the intermediate Grand Prix category. First beginning the switch to Moto2 in 2021 with the Aspar Team, moving up with the team from Moto3. In 2023 he made the switch to the Red Bull KTM Ajo team, ending a partnership which lasted over six years.

His seat next season will be taken by Deniz Oncu who recently announced the jump to the Moto2 class. Celestino Vietti will also move to the Red Bull KTM Ajo team next season, with Pedro Acosta aiming for a MotoGP ride.

He will join the QJMOTOR Gresini Racing team, which is currently in seventh position in the Moto2 teams’ standings. Jeremy Alcoba and Filip Salac are riding for the team in 2023 with Arenas’ teammate yet to be announced.

Albert Arenas is currently 14^th position in the Moto2 standings, ahead of Joe Roberts and Barry Baltus. His best result this season came at Catalunya with a third-place finish, claiming his first podium in the class.

The highlight of his Grand Prix career came in 2020, when the Spaniard would take the Moto3 World Championship. Arenas took five podiums throughout the season including three race wins.

Arenas said: “It’s an honour for me to join a squad with such history, with world championship titles and such an important MotoGP effort. There’s still half a season left, and the goal is to stay focused and keep growing as a rider, in order to get to 2024 in the best possible situation. 

“I would like to thank Nadia and the whole of Gresini Racing for this great opportunity.”

Luca Gresini added: “We wanted a top rider also in Moto2 and I think with Albert we will be a reference point also in this category. The #75 is a veteran in Moto2, one capable of winning races and titles. We want the best and why not, we can dream of a Moto2 title with him.”
