Marquez tops 2nd test day at Buriram with sub 90 second lap
Marc Marquez took over from fellow Honda rider Cal Crutchlow at the top of the Buriram testing time sheets, becoming the first motorcycle rider in history to lap the track in under 90 seconds. A rapid Marquez, who celebrated his 25th birthday on the second day of testing, tried aerodynamical enhancements, rear tyres and different set ups on his way to the blistering lap time.
“Today was a good day. We started by playing with the setup a bit in the beginning of the session. Then we went on to try some Michelin rear tyres, which weren’t bad, and we also worked on the aerodynamics,” began the reigning double champion.
“At the end of the day, we put together our best package and we went faster. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow, as it seems that the track gets better and better every day, and so do the other riders. That said, I think we’re doing a great job in our garage and we’ll try to continue on that path.”
Marquez put in a total of 97 laps in a colossal day two of testing, setting his best on the 91st. Only KTM’s test rider, Mika Kallio, completed more circulations of the Chang International Circuit. The 25-year-old improved his time by around 0.8s in comparison to day one, suggesting that he and his Repsol Honda team are more than capable of upping the pace at will.
Tomorrow is the last day of testing before the teams head to Qatar in early March for the final pre-season outing.
