GT: SRO sets out 2030 sustainability strategy

SRO Motorsports Group, the series organiser of the Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli, the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe and the Intelligent Money British GT Championship, amongst many others, has announced its sustainability strategy for the next eight years.

SRO has based its strategy around three central pillars: events, teams and partners.

SRO will be working with circuits and suppliers to reduce waste during a race weekend. A target has been set to eliminate single-use plastic containers and bottles and SRO has provided guidance to teams and circuits on its removal. SRO promotional items will require the use of lowest-impact resources for merchandising, branding materials and uniforms.

Teams will be empowered to pursue a carbon neutral policy through decarbonisation guidance while SRO will continue to provide carbon compensation services through avoided deforestation.

SRO will be launching experimental events in 2022, creating an alternative series that demonstrates the capabilities of electric and hydrogen GT racing. The organisation will be encouraging diverse teams that include members from underrepresented backgrounds.

The third pillar of the strategy will be to create partnerships that deliver zero carbon fuels and sustainable tyres with the target to develop fuel that delivers the necessary power with 60 percent lower CO2 emissions by 2023, culminating in zero CO2 by 2030.

The 2021 Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli concludes with the Kyalami 9 Hour on December 2.
