British GT: Davidson / Adam Absent From 2020 Grid.

2019 British GT Championship drivers champions Graham Davidson and Jonny Adam will not be on the grid to defend their titles in 2020.

Davidson had been due to return to the premier domestic GT series with Aston Martin Academy driver and reigning GT4 title holder Tom Canning while fellow Scot Jonny Adam had been scheduled to partner with 2014 runner-up Ahmad Al Harthy.

One of the two now-vacant GT3 slots on the 2020 British GT grid will be taken by the returning Duncan Cameron and Matt Griffin in their Ferrari F488 GT3 Evo run by AF Corse.

The global pandemic and its disruption to business life has been blamed for the withdrawals.

Commenting on social media, Graham Davidson made it clear that his businesses required his full attention before he returns to the race track.

“After the success of teaming up with TF Sport in 2019, delivering the first win on British soil for the new Aston Martin Vantage GT3 and ultimately the Championship in its first year, it’s very hard to accept and brings me no satisfaction to announce that for 2020, I’ll not be competing in the British GT Championship with TF Sport and Tom Canning.

“Covid-19 circumstances have, unfortunately, affected a lot of people and businesses negatively and that’s where I need to focus my attention before I come back to racing.”

TF Sport was disappointed that the Redhill-based team was not going to be able to defend its drivers and teams titles in the upcoming season.

“Everyone is very disappointed not to have an opportunity to defend the British GT3 title this year,” said the team on social media.

“The two fantastic (GT3) line-ups we had meant that we had a very good chance of maintaining our proud GT3 record this year, but that just won’t be possible.”

TF Sport will field its previously announced GT4 entries with a view to retaining its GT4 titles.

The opening round of the 2020 British GT Championship gets underway at Oulton Park on August 1 – 2.
