GT: British GT Championship Announces Revised 2020 Calendar.

The series organiser of the British GT Championship, the SRO Motorsports Group, has announced a revised calendar for the 2020 season, following the postponement of the opening rounds due to the Coronavirus pandemic

The new schedule will allow for an unchanged 15 hours of racing time comprised of nine races.  Five will be in the one-hour sprint format and four will be endurance events with two two-hour and two three-hour contests.

Missing from the calendar will be the championship’s annual visit to Spa, an understandable decision given the restrictions in movement across national borders and the challenges of arranging a national championship which starts in August.

The new calendar, announced on Thursday May 14, will comprise of the following:

August 1 & 2:          Oulton Park (2 x 1 hrs)

August 15 & 16:       Donington Park (1 x 1 hr, 1 x 2hr)

August 29 & 30:       Brands Hatch (1 x 2hr)

September 19 &20:   Donington Park (1 x 3 hr)

October 3 & 4:         Snetterton (2 x 1 hr)

November 7 & 8:      Silverstone.

Championship manager Lauren Granville was pleased to be able to present the revised calendar and explained that arranging a season’s racing within a short window presented some challenges.

“Hosting six events within three months hasn’t been easy to organise – there’s a lot to consider and a finite number of dates available at UK circuits that avoid clashes with SRO’s European championships, which has remained a priority throughout,” said Lauren Granville. “We’re delighted to present a revised calendar that includes trips to all of our previously scheduled UK circuits and retains 15 hours of racing across nine races.

“We feel that starting the season in Britain in August is the most pragmatic approach to a very complicated situation, hence our decision not to visit Spa this year.

“It’s sure been a very busy three months for everyone and after being locked down for so long, our teams and drivers are even more eager to go racing than ever before.”  

Motorsport UK is expected to publish its guidelines under which race meetings can take place shortly. These may include limits on spectator numbers and changes to sporting regulations relating to briefings, scrutineering, parc fermé, driver changes and pitstops.
