F1 Driver Ratings: Styria 2020

Lewis Hamilton took his first win of the 2020 Formula 1 season as Mercedes notched up another 1-2 finish.

Valtteri Bottas overtook Max Verstappen to clinch second with damage to Verstappen’s front wing slowing him down in the second half of the Grand Prix.

Alexander Albon held onto fourth despite a charge from Sergio Perez who suffered front wing damage on the last lap in a chaotic final few laps.

As per usual, the order below is the finishing order of the race.

Max Verstappen: 8.5/10

Hamilton was in unbeatabe form in qualifying and the race. His pole position lap was special, reminiscent of Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher.

Whenever it rains, there is a lot of talk about how good Verstappen is but Hamilton is in a league of his own in the wet.

The way he can feel the car without going over the limit in the most difficult conditions is incredible and I cannot say enough how good Hamilton is in the wet because it is almost magical.

In the race, he was able to control things with relative ease and the question is, how many times can he repeat that sort of performance this season?

Charles Leclerc gets the lowest rating and the reason I’ve been so harsh is because the number one rule in motorsport is do not hit your teammate. It was a silly move by Leclerc to try and squeeze his car into the gap.

Young Leclerc admitted it was his fault and hopefully he can learn from it. He was lucky to get away with a grid penalty for the next race and at the very least two or three penalty points on his licence shuld have been given.

Can it get any worse for Ferrari? A midfield car for the biggest team on the grid and then there drivers end up making contact and are both out of the race after a few corners.
