Endurance: Hydrogen-powered MissionH24 Racer set for Goodwood

MissionH24’s ground-breaking hydrogen-powered endurance race car will make its UK debut at next week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Powered by a four-stack hydrogen fuel cell, the LMPH2G represents a significant technological development . It plays a key part in the H24 ambitions to enter the world’s premier endurance racing competitions, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The LMPH2G will be on display in front of the crowds each day of the festival on the Michelin Supercar Paddock live stage. It will also take on the world-famous hillclimb.

Michelin has backed the development of the LMPH2G in collaboration with hydrogen fuel cell maker Symbio – a joint venture between Michelin and Faurecia.

The four-stacked hydrogen fuel cell powers four electric motors, creating a combined output of 653hp. This power gives it a top speed in excess of 185mph. At the same time, the car’s lightweight chassis and aerodynamic features allow it to maintain durability and handling performance.

Michelin will also unveil its revolutionary race tyre at Goodwood. The compound consists of at least 46 per cent sustainable raw materials. This includes recycled carbon black from used tyres, orange and lemon peel, sunflower oil, pine resin and recycled packaging steel.

Endurance racing will serve as a laboratory to accelerate the development of sustainable, high-performance tyres. Further, it will support Michelin’s commitments to the future. The French company has pledged to manufacture all its tyres with 100 per cent sustainable materials by 2050. Likewise, 40 percent of all materials used in tyres across the group will be sustainable by 2030.

Peymen Sabet, vice president of business development at Michelin Europe North highlighted Michelin’s drive to innovation in the partnership with GreenGT H24. He emphasised the company’s commitment to “sustainability, without compromising on performance“.
