Carlin to Return to British F4 after Sabbatical

One of the UK’s most iconic single-seater racing teams; Carlin, will make their return to the first level of single-seaters as they rejoin the F4 British Championship.

They were one of the first teams to enter the series when it rebranded as MSA Formula in 2015. They went on to win the opening three championships, first with Lando Norris, then Max Fewtrell and Jamie Caroline, all of which have picked up victories, further up the racing ladder.

Carlin had announced at the end of 2017 that they planned to pull out of the series in order to focus on efforts in the USA, which included a move into IndyCar as well as their continued envolvement in Indy Lights. They also went on to announce a move in FIA F2 with Norris, who has since been signed by the McLaren F1 Team.

Despite their success, the team cited their busy schedule as a reason for their departure. With a Carlin spokesperson telling Autosport in 2017; “Due to an increase in the number of programmes the team is involved in this season, we will be taking a sabbatical from British F4.”

With limited resources being listed as their reason last season, this opens the door to questions about their involvement in other series. Most notably, European F3, which is set to change to International F3 next season. Carlin has yet to confirm plans on this front, with also no indication of joining a new-Euro F3 for 2019. However, their future also remains unclear in Formula 2, despite the fact they are leading the series.

We won the inaugural season with Lando Norris who three years’ later is on his way to Formula 1, so we know that the championship is the perfect platform for young and talented drivers looking to launch their career in the best possible way.
