BTC: Amanuel Brinton wins a last-lap thriller at the British GP

Amanuel Brinton wins Race Two of the British Talent Cup after an impressive battle with Belford and Brown.

Evan Belford (City Lifting / RS Racing) was on pole position for the second race of the weekend for the British Talent Cup. Sullivan Mounsey (Wilson Racing / Maddison Media) qualified in second, who was hoping to do the double this weekend. Harley McCabe (McCabe Racing) rounded out the front row with dry conditions for the race.

Sullivan Mounsey led the field into turn one before Belford battled back at Village on the first lap. Mounsey crashed out of the race on the entry to Luffield, ending his race on the first lap and leaving the #4 disappointed.

Amanuel Brinton (Kovara Projects / RS Racing) battled at the front of the field on the #43 machine. Lucas Brown (Amphibian Scaffolding / SP125 Racing) also managed to get a great start, leading briefly at the start.

McCabe dropped a position after two laps, down to fourth position, and was under pressure from Rhys Stephenson (Rocket Racing). Battling at the front allowed Harrison Dessoy Microlise Cresswell Racing / Eastern Garage) to battle within the top five.

Evan Belford was the rider at the front of the field, with a five-way battle at the front of the race.

Ronnie Harris (Kovara Projects / RS Racing) made his way inside of the top 10 on the #66 machine. Harris was in his own battle with Harrison Mackay (Wilson Racing / HMR) and Julian Correa (Microlise Creswell Racing).

The top two riders of Brinton and Belford began to edge out a gap at the front of the race, extending the gap to third to over a second. The race leader was changing every sector, with Brinton setting the new fastest lap.

This battling allowed McCabe, Brown, and Dessoy to slowly close in the gap as Rhys Stephenson becomes the first rider to set a 2’19.9 lap time. Ronnie Harris had a near identical crash to Mounsey, losing the front at Luffield with three laps to go.

Belford looked confident as he hit the front, with inches between the two young talents with two laps to go.

A last-lap overtake to win

On the final lap, Evan Belford would drop to third position at Village before fighting back straight away. Belford eventually made his way into second before reclaiming the race lead with the race going down to the final sector.

At the line, Amanuel Brinton took the race win after a spectacular overtake at the end of the Hanger Straight. Evan Belford finished just 0.041 seconds behind to come home in second with 20 valuable points. Lucas Brown rounds out the podium after a great finish for the #29 rider.

Harley McCabe ended the race in fourth position, less than half a second from the race winner. Harrison Dessoy rounded out the top five ahead of Rhys Stephenson who couldn’t bridge the gap. Ollie Walker (VisionTrack Racing) finished in seventh with Ryan Frost (Talentum Motorsport by Azure Notions) rounding out the top eight.

Riders will not have to wait long to race with the British Talent Cup racing at Thruxton in one weekend.
