BSB: Tom Booth-Amos successful in the Supersport Sprint

Tom Booth-Amos wins his first race since Snetterton in Supersport.

Ben Currie (Oxford Products Racing Ducati) set the fastest time in pole position after a great lap in qualifying. Tom Booth-Amos (Gearlink Kawasaki) and Jaimie van Sikkelerus (MPM Routz Racing Team) joined Currie on the front row.

Ben Currie led the field away after getting the holeshot out of turn one of the race onboard the Ducati V2. Tom Booth-Amos was behind in second position with Rhys Irwin (Astro – JJR Suzuki) behind who was hoping for a better round.

The first crash of the race came on the exit of turn one with Thomas Strudwick (Carl Cox Motorsport with Uggly & Co by Binch Pro) high siding. Eunan McGlinchey (Eunan McGlinchey Racing) and Eugene McManus (Completely Motorbikes Triumph) came together at the end of lap one, crashing out of the race.

Riders continued to fall with Owen Mellor (Nykos Racing) crashing out of the GP2 category after losing the front at Cascades. Mellor switched to the GP2 class mid-way through 2023 after racing in the Junior Superstock class.

Currie maintained the lead at the front with Booth-Amos and Irwin battling for the second position places. Richard Cooper (BPE Yamaha) began to attack his way into the podium places with the top five beginning to edge away. Dean Harrison (BPE Yamaha) joined Cooper in Supersport this weekend, after departing from DAO Racing.

Jamie Perrin Irwin (Astro – JJR Suzuki) was the next crasher of the race, losing the rear on the exit of Island Bend. The Astro – JJR Suzuki’s race went from bad to worse with Rhys Irwin taken out of the race by Richard Cooper.

Jack Nixon (PHR Performance Triumph) led the battle for fourth position and battled with Tom Toparis (Macadam Racing).

A five-bike battle continued at the front

From five bikes to three at the front, Ben Currie continued to lead the way with Booth-Amos hot on his tail. The fastest lap of the race went the way Jaimie van Sikkelerus who caught the front two.

James McManus was the next faller of the race, crashing at the same corner as his brother earlier on in the race. Zak Corderoy (Gearlink Kawasaki) had his own issues and highsided on the exit of turn one.

On the final lap of the race, it was a three-way battle for the win with Currie eventually cracking under pressure. Running wide on the final lap allowed Tom Booth-Amos to jump into the race lead.

At the finish line, it was Tom Booth-Amos who would take the race win by two-tenths of a second. Ben Currie held into second from Jaimie van Sikkelerus who rounded off the podium places.

Tom Toparis came home in fourth onboard the Yamaha R6 with Luke Jones (Highsparks Ducati) rounding out the top five. Dean Harrison was sixth on his return to Supersport, finishing ahead of TJ Toms (R&R Racing) and Jack Nixon who dropped to eighth.
