BSB: Glenn Irwin: “Dream weekend” after PBM dominance at Cadwell Park

PBM Ducati experienced a near-perfect weekend at Cadwell Park after a clean sweep of wins.

Tommy Bridwell’s lead in the British Superbike Championship is slowly closing in with Glenn Irwin behind. The gap is now 14.5 points between Bridewell and Irwin as they head into Oulton Park.

Glenn Irwin qualified on the front row of the grid at Cadwell Park, ahead of Bridewell who was back on the third row. Irwin would take the race win in races one and two, reducing the Championship lead as Bridewell was off the podium.

After the race weekend, Glenn Irwin was later awarded the Pirelli King of the Mountain after an incredible weekend. BeerMonster Ducati run by PBM is also leading the team standings – currently ahead of the LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha team.

Glenn Irwin said: “It’s been a dream weekend really. To go to a track where I’ve never had a podium at before and come away with a double victory and a second place as well as being crowned Pirelli King of the Mountain is amazing.

“I had to fight hard in every race, all of us were on the limit, but importantly for me, I’ve pulled back a good chunk of points on Tommy. It’s hotting up and I’m feeling great so a massive thanks to the team, they never stopped working all weekend.”

The team came to Cadwell Park after a tough weekend at Thruxton, with the best-placed PBM bike finishing in ninth. Tommy Bridewell struggled at the start of the weekend at Cadwell Park, unable to match his teammate.

In race three of the weekend, Tommy Bridewell was on the top step of the weekend after a race-long battle at the front. He was battling with his teammate, eventually winning with Irwin just 0.057 behind at the line.

Tommy Bridewell added: “It’s been a really tough weekend but, in the end, it’s been a rewarding one. I’ve not felt good on the bike all weekend for some reason, and we were searching for a solution but all credit to the team that we found it for the last race.

“Looking at it positively, if I can get results like this when I’m not comfortable on the bike, then that bodes well but I expected more here. It was just a case of digging in and getting what points I could in the first two races, but it all came good in the end. We’ll come out swinging at the next round.”
