BSB: ASTRO-JJR Racing announce 2023 line-up

ASTRO-JJR Racing will return to the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship in 2023.

Rhys Irwin and Jamie Perrin will ride for the ASTRO-JJR Racing team in 2023, riding a Suzuki. The team will line up in the grid this season with the Suzuki GSX-R750R, as Suzuki makes its return to the series this year.

Rhys Irwin will continue in the Supersport class this year after a season racing onboard the Triumph machine. Irwin will also continue with the Astro JJR Racing team this season, as they switch to Suzuki.

Rhys Irwin finished seventh in the 2022 Quattro Group British Supersport Championship, finishing the season as the top Triumph. The highlight of the 20-year-old’s season came at Brand Hatch, claiming a podium. Irwin has also competed at the Daytona 200, where he would qualify in 17^th position.

Jamie Perrin will switch teams and manufacturers in 2023, after multiple years of racing for his own team, the Jamie Perrin APS team. Perrin ended the year in 11^th position in the standings, finishing ahead of Max Ingham.

The brand-new Suzuki GSX-R750R has already experienced great success in motorcycle racing, most recently in MotoAmerica. At the Daytona 200, Suzuki would battle for the win throughout the race and would end the race in fourth position.

Irwin said: “I’m in a great place with the support of a team that has so much experience and the family vibe that works so well for me, the Suzuki is a weapon, and I am looking forward to a great year.”

Perrin said: “I’m excited and confident and this is a good place to find myself so now hopefully making the jump to be a regular challenger right at the very front of the class. Testing in Spain went well, and nothing was too much trouble.”

Stuart Tromans, Team Principle, concluded: “This is a big deal! We have done this sort of thing in the BSB paddock for over 20 years, but this is a chance to prove that we can produce a racing motorcycle deserving of the title. This is a real global racing project with American, UK and European interest.”

James Jackson, Team Co Principle, added: “We have done a lot of work in a short space of time, but the bike looks great. Our dealer partner Powerslide have been very helpful and once again, all our product suppliers have been top notch to get us close to being ready.”
