Brookes joins McAMS Yamaha alongside Tarran Mackenzie

Josh Brookes will join the McAms Yamaha team for 2018, leaving the Anvil Tag Racing Yamaha outfit after one year. The Australian, who has taken three wins and seven other podiums in 2017, joins the factory-supported Yamaha team, alongside former British Supersport champion, Tarran Mackenzie.

Brookes had been rumoured throughout 2017 to be joining the McAms team, some reports even speculating as soon as this year. Josh has won three races on the Yamaha this season, whereas McAms have won just the one. For the first time ever, the 2017 Classic TT race winner took the Anvil Yamaha team to the Showdown, whereas neither McAms Yamaha made it in. Brookes will be looking to bring his knowledge and experience to the outfit for 2018, as he bids for a second title.

“I would like to win the championship again and then try and defend a title, as a rider of course I would like to run the number one plate. I am still really motivated and I look forward to every race, it doesn’t feel like I have had nine years in BSB; I am still happy and want to race as much as when I first arrived.”

In total, the 34-year-old has had 20 wins for Yamaha and 23 other podiums, starting back in 2014. This makes him a very decorated candidate for the official factory-backed team. Josh rode for the ‘factory supported’ Milwaukee Yamaha in 2015, where he won the title.

Tarran Mackenzie makes his British Superbike debut in 2018, returning to the same team at which he won the 6 races for in the British Supersport championship last season. Mackenzie has since been in the world of Moto2 Grand Prix, where he struggled to get to grips with the Kiefer Racing Suter. The Scotsman did manage to take a point at the Japanese GP, in torrential rain.
