British GT: Redline Racing Joins 2022 GT3 Grid with Malykhin and Dorlin

Stockton-on-Tees-based Redline Racing is to enter the 2022 Intelligent Money British GT Championship with a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo to be driven by Alex Malykhin and James Dorlin.

Redline Racing has been most closely aligned with Porsche with whom it has won 11 Porsche Carrera Cup GB drivers titles, including its 2021 campaign with now three-time champion Dan Cammish.

Alex Malykhin began his racing career in 2021 with the Porsche Visit Cayman Islands Sprint Challenge Great Britain Am championship where, with the help of the coaching of Dorlin, the Anglo-Belarusian driver finished second.

Malykhin is looking forward to the challenges of the premier domestic GT championship and will enter the Porsche Sprint Challenge Middle East in preparation.

“We know it’s a big step up in a short space of time but I felt like I was on top of the Cayman by the end of this season and could build up to the GT3 with some Porsche Cup races over the winter,” said Malykhin.

“James has been instrumental in getting me to this point, knows all about British GT and was the class of 2020’s Sprint Challenge field. What’s more, in Redline and the Lamborghini, we couldn’t have a better team or a more proven car.

“We know it’s very competitive and there are seasoned crews with a lot more experience. But I really believe it won’t be long before we’re giving them something to think about.”

22-year-old James Dorlin is no stranger to winning championships, having finished at the top of the Pro standings for the inaugural season of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Great Britain. Dorlin started competing in 2013 and won the 2014 Junior Saloon Car Championship and the 2016 Michelin Clio Cup Series.

Dorlin has previous experience in the British GT Championship, having finished sixth in the 2019 GT4 drivers standings with Tolman Motorsport.

“British GT was fun the first time around and I learnt a lot about multi-class racing but always hoped to be driving a GT3 car at the very front one day,” said Dorlin. “We had a lot of bad luck in 2019 and should have been pushing for the championship so to get a second chance of sorts after a successful season in Sprint Challenge feels very satisfying.

“Alex has also come on leaps and bounds since the start of the year. We could have gone down the traditional GT4 route but, honestly, now he’s had a season with the Cayman I think he’s capable of moving up straight away. We’re expecting a steep learning curve – this is uncharted territory for all of us, including Redline – but ‘ve no doubt we have the potential to fight against the current front runners in GT3.”

The 2022 Intelligent Money British GT Championship gets underway at Oulton Park on April 16 – 18.
