British GT: Preview – Snetterton Media Day To Launch 2020 Season

The 2020 British GT Championship, now with new title sponsor Intelligent Money, will launch the new season with its Media Day, to be held at Snetterton, on Tuesday March 3.

The premier domestic GT championship announced in October 2019 that, just ten days after the application process opened for the new season, 30 of the 35 available slots had already been allocated. At that stage, entries received for the GT3 class had already exceeded the 15 slots that had been reserved, resulting in a waiting list for the GT4 class.

Currently 15 entries are known in the GT3 category, representing six manufacturers. Four McLaren 720S GT3s will be on the grid for the opening round at Oulton Park following 2 Seas Motorsport’s announcement of two entries. Three examples each of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 and the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 will be competing for class honours while the GT3 grid will also see two entries each of the Bentley Continental GT3 and the Aston Martin Vantage.

A single Porsche 911 GT3 R will fly the flag for the Stuttgart marque in the senior category, courtesy of the G-Cat Racing entry, driven by Shamus Jennings and Greg Caton.

2020 promises to be a highly competitive season in the GT4 category. McLaren will dominate the class grid, numerically at least, with six examples of the 570S GT4. Four Aston Martin Vantage GT4s represent the Gaydon manufacturer with two each from 2018 GT3 drivers champions Optimum Motorsport and 2019 class champion TF Sport.

Redhill-based TF Sport, who were absent at Donington for Media Day in 2019, will have all four of their 2020 entries, two GT3s and two GT4s, present at Snetterton on Tuesday.

Two examples each of the BMW M4 GT4 and the Ford Mustang GT4 will be on the grid and Speedworks Motorsport will be campaigning one of only six Toyota GR Supra GT4s competing globally.

Media Day offers the opportunity for an early season test for teams ahead of the opening weekend at Oulton Park over the Easter weekend of April 11 – 13. Three test sessions are set aside for British F3 teams and two for the Intelligent Money British GT Championship grid.

The day also offers the opportunity for press conference by the series organisers; SRO Motorsports Group and on-track promotional photography.

For enthusiasts of the British GT Championship, Media Day is a great opportunity to view the new grid (or most of it as not all teams choose to test) and meet drivers and team personnel away from the pressure of a race weekend.

Gates open to the public for this free-to-enter event at 9.00am on Tuesday March 3.
