British GT: 2 Seas Motorsport wins at Silverstone. Topham and Turner take GT4 honours

2 Seas Motorsport, making its debut in the 2021 Intelligent Money British GT Championship with its new #14 Mercedes-AMG GT3 driven by Hunter Abbott and Martin Kodric, won the Silverstone 500, Round 2 of the season, finishing over seven seconds ahead of the #1 Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan GT3 piloted by Adam Balon and Sandy Mitchell.

Completing the overall podium positions was the sister Barwell Motorsport entry, the #52 Lamborghini with Leo Machitski and Dennis Lind sharing the driving duties.

In the GT4 category, class honours went to Matt Topham and Darren Turner in the #27 Newbridge Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 with the GT4S entry Richard Williams and Sennan Fielding in the #42 Stellar Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT4 finishing.

The top three in the GT4 was rounded out by John Ferguson and Scott McKenna’s #15 Toyota.

2 Seas Motorsport’s #14 Mercedes with Hunter Abbott at the wheel led the field away from the grid and had pulled out an advantage of 30 seconds after an hour. There was drama for Brendan Iribe in the #70 Inception Racing McLaren 720S Gt3 when damage to the rear suspension after contact with the #25 Car Gods with Ciceley Motorsport GT4 Mercedes caused Iribe to retire. In addition, Richard Neary had to retire the #8 team Abba Racing Mercedes with a gearbox issue.

The race was between the 2 Seas Motorsport Mercedes and the Barwell Motorsports Lamborghinis, Dennis Lind in the #63 entry chasing down Kodric with an hour remaining. GT4 traffic allowed the sister Barwell Lamborghini with Sandy Mitchell at the wheel through into second on the final lap. 

In the GT4 class, Matt Topham, at the wheel of the #27 Newbridge Motorsport Aston Martin, drove a solid opening stint and handed over to factory driver Darren Turner who passed Gus Burton’s BMW for the class lead at the half-way mark.

Turner was under pressure from Sennan Fieldings’s Audi over the closing laps but the double Le Mans winner held on to take the class victory.

After two rounds of the 2021 Intelligent Money British GT Championship Leo Machitski and Dennis Lind head the overall GT3 drivers standings on 49.5 points courtesy of their second place finish, Abbott and Kodric’s result not counting as they are entered for selected rounds. Andrew Howard and Jonny Adam move into second place on 45 points while WPI Motorsport’s Michael Igoe and Phil Keen fall to third on 43.5 points.

In the GT4 category, Will Burns and Gus Burton lead the overall drivers standings on 55.5 points followed by Richard Williams and Sennan Fielding on 42 points.

The British GT Championship meets next at Donington Park on July 10 -11.
