British GT: 2 Seas Motorsport returns with Mercedes

2 Seas Motorsport, the GT racing team owned by Isa Al Khalifa and Nicholas Crisofaro which made its debut in the 2020 Intelligent Money British GT Championship with two McLaren 720S GT3s driven by Jordan Witt, Jack Mitchell, Angus Fender and Dean Macdonald, has announced that it will return to the premier domestic GT series for the Silverstone 500 on June 26 – 27.

The team has switched to Mercedes-AMG for the 2021 season with driver pairing of Hunter Abbott and Martin Kodrić.

Kodrić began his racing career in 2006 and spent the first seven years in karts before switching to the Protyre Formula Renault Championship in 2013. The Croatian pilot made his debut in GT machinery in 2016 when he drove the Bonaldi Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Final. Kodric drove with Strakka Motorsport in the 2017 Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup and won the 2018 Blancpain GT Series Asia GT3 title in 2018 with FFF Racing Team. Kodrić made a one-off appearance with 2 Seas Motorsport in 2020, finishing fourth overall and third in the GT3 Silver category in the season finale at Silverstone, driving alongside Al Faisal Al Zubar.

Hunter Abbott will be making his first appearance in the British GT Championship since 2016. Abbott won the Blancpain GT Series Asia title in 2017 with GruppeM Racing Team and has extensive experience in the VLN Championship at the Nürburgring.

Abbott is looking forward to returning to top-class competition on home soil.

“Apart from a one-off in 2020, it’s been almost two years since I last raced so I can’t wait to be back in British GT and competing at Silverstone,” said Abbott. “It’s such an iconic circuit and championship, both of which hold very fond memories. It’s great to be racing with 2 Seas Motorsport and back sharing a car with Martin and, of course, getting to debut their new Mercedes-AMG is the cherry on top of the icing on the cake!

“It’s going to be a tough challenge with the calibre of the grid this year, and our relative lack of seat time, but I cannot wait to get the weekend started!”

Team co-owner Nick Christofaro is also excited at the prospect of competing with some of the best GT3 drivers in the world when his team returns to the Intelligent Money British GT Championship.

“It’s really great to confirm our return to the British GT Championship as the debut outing for the Mercedes-AMG’” said Christofaro. “This is one of the most competitive GT3 series in the world and the Silverstone 500 is a true highlight of the season.”

Track action for the Silverstone 500 gets underway at 09:55 local time on Saturday June 26 with practice with the lights going out for the three-hour race at 12:10 on Sunday June 27.
