British F3: Hoggard Steps up with Fortec

Multiple British F4 race winner Johnathan Hoggard becomes Fortec Motorsports second BRDC British F3 Championship signing for 2019.

The 17-year-old made headlines last year, collecting eight victories, more than any other driver, on his way to third in the F4 British Championship. His remarkable second half included six wins from the last eleven races, scoring more points than any other driver.

It followed on from his single-seater debut in 2017, in which he picked up a podium, having already won the Super1 National Junior Karting championship a year before.

He becomes the tenth driver to sign up to British F3 this year, after testing with Fortec at the Silverstone round last October, in which he topped the rain-filled third session.

“I am incredibly excited and thrilled we have finalised everything allowing me to compete in the 2019 British F3 season with Fortec Motorsport, continuing our successful partnership from 2018.

I declined multiple strong offers to race in European championships but the BRDC British F3 Championship was always my preferred option given its history, stability and the thrill when driving the British F3 car – which suits my driving style.

The 2019 objectives are to carry the strong form from the end of last season into the start of the new season, focus on podium finishes and look to mount a strong championship challenge from Round One at Oulton Park.” – Johnathan Hoggard.

He becomes the second Fortec driver to be signed, with Kris Wright having been confirmed yesterday for the team.

The 24-year-old American has not come through traditional routes, with experience in the Pirelli World Challenge and IMSA prior to this. Last season saw him pick up the IMSA Prototype Challenge crown, driving an LMP3 Ligier JS P3.

He is no rookie to single-seaters though, having raced the last two years in the Pro-Mazda Championship between his sportscar career and a stint in Porsche Carrera Cup Germany.

“Working with Fortec has been great during the testing I did end of last year, they are very professional and have the alumni to back them up. I’m eager to get started and see how the single seater racing goes in Europe, in comparison to the other racing I’ve done so far.
