BREAKING: Elliott gets OMG Racing Superbike chance at Assen
Since joining the OMG Racing team, Josh Elliott has taken two National Superstock 1000 wins, four other podiums, numerous fastest laps and a number of poles. Heβs been progressing so well on the OMG Racing Suzuki that he came into the Oulton Park round with a chance of the title victory. His confidence on the bike and successes to date have resulted in OMG Racing entering him into the Superbike class at Assen, where he will partner his good friend and teammate Gino Rea in Britainβs premier class of motorsport.
Elliott has had success at the Assen track on a Superbike before, with a sensational qualifyingΒ (and THAT sensational save) in 2017 placing him 7th on the grid.Β Josh completed both races with two solid 19th places and is determined to at least match those results from last year.
The OMG Racing Suzuki team have had a successful debut season in British Superbikes, with wins and podiums with Josh Elliott whilst Gino Rea has been improving as the season has progressed – especially at Silverstone, when he was inside the top ten on two occasions.
βIβm buzzing for this unbelievable opportunity that the team has given me; Iβm really looking forward to riding the OMG Racing Suzuki Superbike as it will be a great experience. I really enjoy riding on the Assen track too. Thereβs not too much of a difference between the Superbike and the Superstock bike with the Suzuki so the transition shouldnβt be too big,” said the 2015 National Superstock 1000 champ, having joined the all-new outfit at fourth round of the championship this year.
“It will take a wee bit of learning and Iβm sure the team will help me with that; the crew chief Ray Stringer will be working with me, so we will set little targets and try to achieve those step-by-step. Iβll be looking to learn off Gino Rea too as heβs been on the Superbike all year. If we are able to pick up some points then thatβd be really nice,β he concluded.
Team manager Paul Curran is excited at the prospect of Josh Elliott riding the OMG Racing Superbike, placing no expectations on the 2015 National Superstock 1000 champion at all. It will also be the first time that the team has run two Superbikes too, so itβll be an experimental weekend all round.
βMoving forward, OMG Racing want to move into a two-Superbike team. Josh has been on the podium at pretty much every round weβve been to and has gelled really well with the bike and team. The National Superstock 1000 title is now mathematically not possible, and was unlikely anyway, so we always thought that we may as give him a chance on the Superbike. There are no expectations of him and in all honesty, itβll be a first for us as we will be running two Superbikes. We are under no illusion that British Superbikes is competitive and if he gets a good result then thatβll be great but if he doesnβt, then we will just learn from it and take away what will be a valuable experienceβ.
