British F3: Frederick Takes Revenge in Race Two

A first win of the year went to Kaylen Frederick after the Carlin driver pulled away from pole during the reverse grid BRDC British F3 race from Oulton Park.

The result came as revenge for Saturday in which the American had started on pole, but dropped back after the start, being caught up in an incident that forced the Carlin driver to pit.

Today from pole though, Frederick was not to be challenged.

After holding off Neil Verhagen in the first corner, he extended his gap to almost five seconds by the line as the Double R driver made it an American 1-2.

It was Hampus Ericsson who caused the first incident of the day, after an audacious lunge on Kris Wright caused the American to make contact, running off into the barriers at Shell Oils. Ericsson was forced to pit, though the green flag stayed out as Clement Novalak sliced his way through the field on the opening lap, gaining six places.

Neil Verhagen struggled to keep up with the breaking away Frederick, though eyes were soon on the battle for third as Kiern Jewiss hounded Manuel Maldonado, the winner of this race last year. Like 2018, the Venezulen had made a storming start, slicing past three cars before the first turn.

Josh Mason, who was suffering from damaged tissue in his hand, was quickly falling away from the leaders in fifth. He held on to the place throughout most of the race, building a queue down to twelfth.

Sasakorn Chaimongkol had made it past Mason after a mistake for the Lanan driver in the latter stages, but the Thai driver was given a penalty for a jump start, dropping him to thirteenth, ensuring Mason finished fifth ahead of Novalak.

Behind them in the queue would finish Ulysse de Pauw and Johnathan Hoggard. While completing the top ten was Nazim Azman and Benjamin Pederson who’d spent much of the race dicing with each other.

Elsewhere, Ayrton Simmons ended his race early with car issues, pulling off at the far end of the circuit, a disaster after his second place yesterday.
