MotoGP: Jorge Martin is looking for the “icing on the cake” in 2024

Jorge Martin is ready for the 2024 MotoGP season and is looking to go one better than last year.

The Prima Pramac Ducati unveiled a new look for their 2024 season this week, at the Bahrain International Circuit. The launch took place on the start-finish straight at the start of the opening Formula 1 weekend.

Jorge Martin will return to the team this year for his fourth year with Pramac Racing Ducati. It is a big season ahead, with a ground-breaking 21-race calendar – beginning next weekend in Qatar. The season was originally 22 rounds but is now 21 after the Argentinian round was cancelled.

The Spaniard comes off the back of an impressive season, taking a season-best finish of second last year. Throughout the 2023 season, he took eight Sprint wins and four race wins, bringing the title fight to the final round. Martin is now looking towards the title, hoping to become the first satellite rider to take the title in the MotoGP era.

Speaking ahead of the season Martin said: “2023 was a fantastic year, packed with great results and satisfaction. All that was missing was the icing on the cake right at the end, and I’ll be doing my best to make sure 2024 is even better.

“I know I’m seen as one of the title candidates even before the season kicks off: this kind of pressure is reserved for only a few riders, and being one of them motivates me even more.

“I’m part of a team that has everything it takes to make a difference: the bike, the people, and the mindset. Together, we’re starting this season with the determination to take the top spot.”

Joining the Italian team this year will be an Italian rider, with Franco Morbidelli switching from Yamaha. Morbidelli has yet to ride the GP24 spec Ducati after sustaining an injury at a private test in Portimao. The first time he will ride the bike will be in FP1 at the opening round next week.

The first round of the MotoGP World Championship will take place at the Lusail International Circuit. Then the paddock heads to Portimao, COTA, and then Jerez for the beginning of the European leg of the season.
