BSB: Casey O’Gorman keeping his “options open” as he makes his Junior Superstock debut

Casey O’Gorman gives an update as he prepares to make his debut in the Junior Superstock class

Casey O’Gorman is in the British Superbike Championship, after a late call-up in the British Junior Superstock class. He will race at Thruxton with OMG Racing, during the JuniorGP summer break.

Speaking ahead of this weekend O’Gorman said: “It’s nice to be back it’s been a long time, I am just excited to get back riding here and watch the Talent Cup like I always do.”

O’Gorman will ride the OMG racing Yamaha R6 on a track that he has never raced at. Speaking about his plans for the weekend O’Gorman said: “I haven’t raced in a few weeks now due to the summer break and it’s getting a bit boring so if I got the chance to ride I would take it.”

“The first session was really fun; I’ve never been here or on the bike. The track is fast, and the bike is fast, and I am having a lot of fun”

Casey O’Gorman is currently ninth in the European Talent Cup standings, ahead of Ruche Moodley.  So far this season, O’Gorman has claimed back-to-back two podiums at Portimao and Catalunya.

Last season racing for VisionTrack, O’Gorman finished third in the standings, claiming four podiums. Included in the four podiums were two race wins, including the final race of the season in Valencia, with the talented Irishman hoping to repeat his success this year.

The 16-year-old switched teams mid-season in the European Talent Cup, O’Gorman added: “It wasn’t fully my decision, but it is what it is and this team is more like a family as they have a passion for the sport and for the memory of their son. The passion is there, and the team is there the equipment may not be as good, but everything is there that I need.”

Casey O’Gorman is also racing in the Red Bull Rookies Cup this season, where he enters his second year in the Championship. He is currently seventh in the standings, and claimed his first podium of the season in Mugello with a second place.

Speaking about his plans for the future O’Gorman said: “We are keeping our options open because if it’s not possible to get a JuniorGP ride next year then I would like to be on a Moto2 instead.

“If Moto3 doesn’t work out then I would like Moto2 as a backup because at the moment it seems to be another path into GP.”
