Moto3: David Alonso becomes the first Columbian Grand Prix winner

David Alonso becomes the first Columbian winner in a last-lap battle at Silverstone.

Jaume Masia (Leopard Racing) qualified on pole position with the home hero, Scott Ogden (VisionTrack Racing Team) in second position. Daniel Holgado (Red Bull KTM Tech3) qualified in second position, as he continues to fight for the Championship.

Drama before the race started with Scott Ogden stalling the bike on the warm-up lap, forcing the Brit to start from the back.

Daniel Holgado led the field way into turn one, pushing Masia wide at the start of the race. Deniz Oncu (Red Bull KTM Ajo) came from ninth of the grid to lead the race briefly, before battling with Masia.

Jaume Masia was the rider who led the field on lap two with a huge field forming at the front of the race. Ayumu Sasaki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) had a great start to his race and was inside of the top five. Sasaki quickly made his way into the podium places before challenging for the win.

Pole sitter, Jaume Masia crashed out of the race at The Loop, ending his chances of a race win at Silverstone. 

David Alonso (Gaviota GASGAS Aspar M3) had an unbelievable start to his race from 28^th to fighting for the podium. Scott Ogden was also fighting back after his mistake on the warm up lap. Ogden was inside of the top 20 on lap five, hoping for points at his home weekend at Silverstone.

Tatsuki Suzuki (Leopard Racing) was now the lone Leopard Honda at the front, as he made his way into fourth. Going down Hanger Straight it was now David Alonso who led the field through.

Ivan Ortola (Angeluss MTA Team) was inside of the top 10 as well with positions changing every lap. Ortola had a special guest in the pitbox with Lando Norris watching on from the MTA garage.

Colin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) was a man on a mission at the start of the race, setting the fastest lap. The Dutch rider eventually climbed his way inside the top 10, and battled through the fierce pack.

Romano Fenati (Rivacold Snipers Team) was back on form at Silverstone, continuing to look competitive. Fenati was hoping to repeat his success in 2021 where the Italian dominated the race.

At the front of the pack, it was Daniel Holgado who led the way once again with five laps remaining. It would not last long with Sasaki getting a slipstream and passing down the Hanger Straight.

Ayumu Sasaki held the race lead for over a lap, with Oncu and Alonso battling for second position. His teammate, Colin Veijer had a huge moment dropping down to 15^th with two lap to go.

It was Daniel Holgado who led the field onto the final lap from David Alonso in second position. Oncu sat in third position, with Sasaki making a desperate move for fourth position.

At the line it was David Alonso who wins at Silverstone and becomes a Grand Prix race winner. Alonso will also become the first-ever Columbian to win a Grand Prix, adding more history to the sport.

Ayumu Sasaki ended the race in second, ahead of Daniel Holgado and Ivan Ortola. David Munoz rounded out the top five, finishing ahead of David Salvador who had a great result at Silverstone.

The Championship is changing at the front with Daniel Holgado’s lead getting reduced to just 22 points. Ayumu Sasaki is closing the gap with Jaume Masia dropping down to third in the standings after his crash. Riders will not have to wait long to race again with the paddock heading to Austria later this month.
