BSB: Two new classes to join the grid in 2024

The Bennetts British Superbike Championship has announced the classes for the 2024 season with some big changes.

For 2024 eight classes will be on show for the 2024 British Superbike season, with two brand-new additions. The Kawasaki Superteen Championship and the Pirelli National Sportbike Championship will race in 2024.

The Pirelli Junior Superstock class will not return in 2024 due to the class being confined to two manufacturers. There is no realistic option of adding more manufacturers due to the inability to add balance of performance. Current machines/teams will be able to transition into the Supersport class or the Supersport Cup.

The Junior Supersport class will not return in 2024 either due to a brand new one-make series. All national and regional clubs will maintain a class which will allow for the Junior Supersport machines to be raced.

The R and G British Talent Cup will continue to use Dunlop tyres in 2024, unlike other Talent Cup Championships.

Kawasaki British Superteen

The Kawasaki British Superteen Championship will be a new addition in 2024, in association with Kawasaki UK. The machine to be used is the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR which will aim to offer riders equal machinery.

The class will be for riders aged 15 to 20 years old and will run across eight double-header rounds. One of these weekends will be a World Superbike Support race at Donington Park in 2024.

The brand-new Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR is an inline 4-cylinder 400cc Supersport machine with the aim to help young riders. Race packages will start at just under £12,000 with the winner of the series receiving a Kawasaki ZX-6R road bike.

“We are excited to be able to offer a competitively priced and exciting race package to young riders looking to develop their racing careers. The Team Green ethos has always been about supporting young talent and offering opportunities on track, so we cannot wait to take this one step further with this new class in 2024.”

Stuart Higgs, Bennetts British Superbike Championship Series Director added: “It is 32 years since the British circuit promoters launched the first “Superteen” Championship, and within the entry list was James Haydon, David Jefferies, John McGuiness, and Michael Rutter. We are tremendously excited to bring the “Superteen” name back to British Championship status.

“Together with our partner Kawasaki UK we are re-calibrating this most important entry level class with a new motorcycle that will benefit team and rider development, and importantly be contained to tight budget and regulations parameters.

“Any major change to the championship structure is carefully considered and current Junior Supersport machines will be eligible for many different regional and national club championships.”

Pirelli Sportbike National Championship

The Pirelli Sportbike National Championship is a championship which will race twin-cylinder motorcycles. So far, the Yamaha R7, Aprilia RS660, Kawasaki Ninja 650, and Honda Hornet 750 are all eligible to race.

The machines will all be balanced using the Mektronic ECU, allowing the organisers to use a balance of performance. Slick tyres will be eligible in the class with riders from 16 years old able to take part.

Some details are yet to be released for this class, with regulations looking similar to MotoAmerica’s Supertwin class.
