WorldSBK: Loris Baz declared unfit for Race Two
Loris Baz has been declared unfit to race following the Superpole Race incident at Mandalika.
Bonovo Action BMW rider, Loris Baz will take no further part in this weekend’s WorldSBK round in Indonesia. The French rider was diagnosed with fractures to both his right leg and ankle following an incident in the Superpole race.
Baz was involved in an incident with Alex Lowes at turn two prior to the red flags being shown. Both riders returned to the pits and managed to make the restart to the Superpole, once the red flags subsided.
Once the race restarted, Lowes and Baz were battling up until lap three of the restarted Superpole race. At turn 10, Alex Lowes attempt to make a pass on the Frenchman and would make contact with Baz’s right leg.
Loris Baz managed to ride his Bonovo Action BMW back to the pitlane but would immediately get taken to the medical centre. At the medical centre, Baz was diagnosed with a right proximal fibula and right ankle fracture. He would later be assessed further by a CT scan.
Due to this injury, Baz will not take part in the final race of the weekend at Mandalika.
Loris Baz is currently 17th in the WorldSBK Championship standings, behind his teammate Gerloff. Both Gerloff and Baz have spent the year, getting a further understanding of the brand-new BMW.
The 30-year-old made his return to the WorldSBK paddock in 2022 after racing in MotoAmerica. Baz finished 12th in the 2022 WorldSBK standings, after a consistent year on the BMW.
