MotoGP: Aragon Grand Prix

The fifteenth round of the MotoGP season blew the title race wide open. The three title challengers of Fabio Quartararo, Francesco Bagnaia and Aleix Espargaro all had rather different results.

The Aragon Grand Prix was won by the Gresini Racing MotoGP rider Enea Bastianini. The Italian rider produced another amazing ride which shows why he will ride for Factory Ducati in 2023.

However, the most dramatic moment of the race came just after the lights went out. The Championship leader, Fabio Quartararo hit the deck! The returning Marc Marquez had a moment in front of the Frenchman and contact occurred. Later into the lap Marquez and Takaaki Nakagami collided and the Japanese rider was also down. Marquez had to retire from the race after these incidents.

Francesco Bagnaia produced a class ride from pole position as the Italian led most of the race. However, on the last lap the Factory Ducati rider was passed by Bastianini, who stole the win from Bagnaia in the final moments of the race.

Aleix Espargaro produced a solid result and returned to the podium for the first time since the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello. Espargaro is still in with a shot of securing the title if he can put together a good run over the flyaway races.

Other notable results from the penultimate European MotoGP race featured Brad Binder in fourth place and Jack Miller in the top five. Luca Marini also secured a solid seventh place finish to continue his good run of form.

With Quartararo crashing out on lap one Bagnaia is now only 10 points behind the Championship leader. Aprilia’s Espargaro is also 17 points behind Quartararo. The MotoGP title hunt is really wide open!
