MotoE: Granado wins in Assen, Aegerter sacrifices points

Eric Granado (One Energy Racing) stormed from pole to victory at the TT Circuit Assen. The Brazilian dropped positions at the start but confidently made his way up the order to claim his second win of the season.

Jordi Torres (HP Pons 40) bagged runner-up with an aggressive move on the final lap that demoted series leader Alessandro Zaccone (Octo Pramac MotoE) to third.

Zaccone continues to head the title race seven points ahead of Torres with Granado a further 10 points behind. Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt Intact GP) sacrificed valuable points and positions with a non-score at Assen and sits fourth with a 17 points deficit.

Lukas Tulovic (Tech 3 E-Racing) stole the holeshot into T1 at the lights with poleman Granado slotting into second from Zaccone and Torres. Aegerter suffered a big moment at T5 on the opening lap but managed to stay in fifth. As the Swiss rider pushed to reel in the gap to the leaders, he lost the front at T16 and had to pick his bike out of the gravel.

Zaccone claimed Tulovic for P1 through T7 and 8 on Lap 2 and matters swiftly got worse for the German who also had to surrender to Granado, Torres and Hikari Okubo (Avant Ajo MotoE). A breakaway trio had formed and Granado hit the front for the first time at T1 going into Lap 4.

Granado continued to pull out an advantage while Zaccone and Torres fell dangerously close to the clutches of the pack. Torres tried everything to retaliate and moved into second to reduce the gap back to four tenths as they crossed the line for the final lap.

However, Granado cruised to victory unchallenged as Zaccone attacked Torres and the pair sacrificed time by exchanging punches. Torres prevailed in the fight for runner-up with an aggressive move at T11 that relegated Zaccone to third at the flag.

Matteo Ferrari (Indonesian E-Racing) Gresini MotoE) found his way up the order to finish fourth ahead of Tulovic and Mattia Casadei (Ongetta SIC58 Squadracorse) while Fermín Aldeguer (OpenBank Aspar Team) was seventh. Okubo had dropped positions in the late stages and came home in eighth from Yonny Hernandez (Octo Pramac MotoE) and Miquel Pons (LCR E-Team) who rounded out the top 10.
