British GT: Return To Spa In 2021 And New GT3 Silver-Am Category

The Intelligent Money British GT Championship has announced its plans for the 2021 calendar after a highly competitive 2020 season that launched in August following delays due to the pandemic.

For 2021, the premier domestic GT racing series will revert back to a seven-event calendar featuring nine races and return to Spa-Francorchamps.

The season will open at Oulton Park over the Easter weekend before Snetterton, Brands Hatch, Sllverstone and Donington. The championship will then meet at Spa-Francorchamps for two-hour contest before concluding the season with a second visit at Donington Park, this time for a pair of one-hour sprint races.

The calendar has been designed to avoid clashes with all rounds of the GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS series, allowing teams and drivers to compete in multiple championships if they choose.

In a significant move, series organiser SRO Motorsports Group has announced that re-introduction of a GT3 Silver-Am category. The move is to redress the balance of competitors towards Am drivers and will see Silver driver pairings no longer permitted.

Not all Silver drivers will be automatically eligible for the new category with the Silver element of the driver pairing will typically comprise promising but less experienced young drivers, GT4 graduates or those likely to contribute some budget when paired with a Bronze-graded Am pilot.

A dedicated Silver-Am podium presentation will take place after each race.

The fill calendar for the 2021 Intelligent Money British GT Championship is as follows:

April 3 & 5:            Oulton Park (2 x 1 –hour races)

April 24/25:           Snetterton (2 x 1-hour races)

May 22/23:           Brands Hatch GP (1 x 2-hour race)

June 26/27:          Silverstone 500 (1 x 3-hour race)

July 10/11 (TBC):  Donington Park (1 x 2-hour race)

July 24/25:           Spa-Francorchamps (1 x 2-hour race)

Sept 11/12 (TBC): Donington Park (1 x 2-hour race)

The final round of the 2020 Intelligent Money British GT Championship takes place at Silverstone on November 7/8, a race featuring the return of 2009 Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button to the home of British motorsport for the first time since 2016.
