WSBK: Van der Mark confirmed with BMW for 2021

Michael van der Mark will join the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team for 2021.

Having confirmed his departure from Yamaha on Tuesday, the Dutchman has secured his future in WorldSBK with a move to the German manufacturer.

After a promising return as a full factory effort, BMW is now gearing up for a serious title assault in 2021 with the signing of van der Mark.

BMW team principal Shaun Muir said:

“We are delighted to welcome Michael to the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team. He brings a wealth of experience and is one of the youngest, most talented riders on the WorldSBK grid. Securing Michael’s services emphasises the focus and determination we have to compete for top honours and we will give Michael every chance to reach that goal.”

Van der Mark debuted in WorldSBK in 2015 and previously raced with Honda and Yamaha. During his career in the class, he so far achieved 29 podium finishes including three race wins.

BMW rejoined the series as a full factory effort in 2019 and scored several podiums with Tom Sykes in their return season.

It is yet unclear who will partner van der Mark in the BMW garage. His arrival will be at the expense of one of the current riders Sykes and Eugene Laverty.
