GT: Australian GT Announces 2020 Calendar.

Australian GT has announced its revised calendar for 2020.

The schedule will see Australia’s premier series for GT3 and GT4 machinery visiting four circuits between August and November.

Round One will take place at Sydney Motorsport Park on August 14 – 16 followed by Round Two at Sandown Raceway, Melbourne on September 11 – 13.

The series than moves to the iconic Mount Panorama, Bathurst on October 9 – 10 before concluding at Barbagallo Raceway on October 30 – November 1.

Category rights holder Jim Manolios was delighted to be able to confirm the revised schedule but cautioned that amendments may still be required.

“Ideally we’d like to work to a five-round program but the onset of COVID-19 and the condensed calendar has made that a big challenge for everyone,” explained Manolios. “To achieve what our team have done so far and maintain our preferred venues and race lengths has been a great achievement but we will continue the discussion with all the stakeholders with respect to adding another round.

“But for now, we have a great program to work with.”

Border restrictions and closures may affect how the later part of the season plays out.

“Things are still in a state of flux at this stage, however we’re hoping that by September we’ll have a better indication of what will happen in South Australia and Western Australia,” Manolios cautioned. “That said, we won’t be alone if those border closures remain in place but regardless, at no stage will we risk the health of our teams over the potential to be racing again.”
