Supercars: Holden to Stop Production of the Commodore in 2020

Holden are to stop production of the iconic Commodore from 2020, the manufacturer has announced.

The model holds over 40 years of history, and has been an integral part of the ATCC and Supercars championships for decades.

The current ZB Commodore running in Supercars is expected to remain in the series until the end of 2021, but plans have not yet been confirmed after its departure.

Holden have further stated that they will now only produce SUVs and Utes, creating no vehicle eligible for spots on the Supercars grid.

As a result, another manufacturer will take Holden’s position in Supercars at the start of the 2022 series. Rumours suggest that Chevrolet Camaros will join the Ford Mustangs in the championship.

“Holden recently re-committed to racing in Supercars through until the end of 2021, and that will happen with the currently homologated ZB Commodore race car.”

“Racing is a strong part of Holden’s brand identity and we will assess our options as Supercars continues to evolve its rules for the next generation of cars currently due to be introduced in 2022.” – Holden Statement.

Since 1997 (the inaugural year of the revised ‘V8 Supercars’), the Commodore has totalled more race wins (529) and more championship titles (13) than any other car in the series’ history.
