Formula E: 5 Reasons To Be Watching

The ABB FIA Formula E Championship returns this weekend to the principality for only it’s third time, it’s been two years since the championship raced around the famous streets.

The championship has gone from strength to strength over the five seasons since its inception. There have been critics but as time has passed and the racing showing up its rivals, those that criticised the sport in in the past have faded into tyre smoke.

With the series growing ever more popular with fans, journalists and motorsport experts, here are five reasons why you should tune into Formula E

World Class Drivers

The depth in field of the drivers in the championship is as high as ever it’s ever been, from Formula 1 race winners (Felipe Massa), DTM champions (Gary Paffett), GP2/Formula 2 champions (Stoffel Vandoorne) and title contenders (Sam Bird, Oliver Rowland, Alex Lynn) and Touring Car legends Jose Maria Lopez) that’s not to mention the past champions of Formula E champions – Sebastian Buemi (Season 2), Lucas Di Grass (Season 3) and Jean Eric Vergne (Season 4) – the list of drivers is world class.

Unique Circuits

The all electric series doesn’t race on purpose built circuits, they race on uniquely built road courses in the heart of some of the biggest and most historical cities in the world. With this in mind, the drivers have to be on edge at all times as they dance their cars through narrow streets on some of the most demanding corners and circuits in any racing series.

Fan Access

The fans get close to the action, literally feeling like you can touch the cars as the drivers get close to the barriers. The E-village gives the fans access to the drivers through autograph sessions, challenging your heroes in the E-race or even getting involved in selfie podium celebrations. On top of that you get to challenge yourself on the Formula E simulator in the gaming zone, along with that there is a kids zone, a driving zone and much more. The fan access is unrivalled.

Immense Racing

Wheel-to-wheel action, hard moves and bravery through tight street circuits gives Formula E action packed racing from start to finish. With standard aero kit on the cars and the single chassis supplier – Dallara – this allows the cars to run nose-to-tail and this in turn creates pass after pass in the short but exciting 45 minute race. Even qualifying on pole position doesn’t guarantee you that you will win the race

Unpredictability

Eight different winners from the first eight races (Antonio Felix Da Costa, Jerome D’ambrosio, Sam Bird, Lucas Di Grassi, Edoardo Mortara, Jean-Eric Vergne, Mitch Evans and Robin Frijns) from seven different teams and five different championship leaders. Formula E is a championship where anyone could win a race and this gives the championship its exciting quality where the championship can change in an instance, you could lead the championship one round and the next you can find yourself in 5th. It’s far too close to call.
