BSB: Luckless Ellison finds rear end solution, race two “nobody’s fault”

Cumbrian James Ellison was returning to Cadwell Park at the weekend, the venue at which he got his first win of the year in 2017. However, fortunes would not be on his side again as, despite a positive race one, race two gremlins halted his charge for more crucial championship points.

Ellison’s season has seen him off the podium since round one, when he was 3rd. The Anvil Hire Tag Racing Yamaha team suffered a difficult weekend at the Lincolnshire circuit in 2017 too, making Cadwell Park a circuit that leaves a very bittersweet taste in the Swadlincote team’s mouths.

“I have mixed emotions about this weekend, it seems we have made progress with the rear of the bike and that showed in race one. My pace was strong and consistent all race long, and I posted my fastest lap at the end of the race, which I was pleased with.

“Race two was nobody’s fault, it’s a part of racing but I can’t say I’m not disappointed, the team worked so hard again this weekend and I can’t thank them, and everyone involved enough because they’re putting in so much effort. We now have to focus on the rest of the season and finish off strongly, which I believe we can.”

Whilst it may be unrealistic, Ellison – who leaves the championship at the end of 2018 – still has a mathematical chance of the Showdown. He is 59 points behind the top six and with 75 up for grabs, it may well still be on. However, Ellison was closer coming into the Silverstone round last year and didn’t make up enough points. Only time will tell…
