Haslam heads up BSB field after perfect Oulton Park

Leon Haslam doubled up at Oulton Park to take the championship lead in the Bennetts British Superbike championship. The JG Speedfit Bournemouth Kawasaki rider beat Jake Dixon in race one and narrowly headed Jason O’Halloran in race two to triumph under the Bank Holiday sun. The success makes it three wins on the bounce for Haslam, who has two World Superbike wildcards in prospect before returning to the BSB series as championship leader.

“It’s been a really good weekend, I had the fastest lap in race one, two race wins, pole position, the championship lead and the most podium credits; I couldn’t really ask for more than that,” began Haslam, who leads the championship by 14 points from young pretender, Brad Ray.

“I am over the moon, everyone worked hard this weekend and we made the soft tyre work for us. I had good pace all the way to the last lap, which is really important. There are still areas I’d like to improve, but for this weekend it couldn’t have gone any better for us.”

Haslam will now head to Imola for the World Superbike meeting. The former series runner-up has had two podiums at the venue before, for BMW in 2012. This will be Haslam’s first wildcard of the season, as he will also be at Donington Park for the Pucetti Kawasaki outfit.
