5.) Scheduling is everything…

When you watch MotoGP, the schedules feels right, with the build of from the smallest class to the biggest class closing proceedings – more often than not in a dramatic way. When watching World Superbike, I don’t feel there is any order to it all.

First of all, scrap race one on the Saturday, it clearly doesn’t work and carries hardly any kind of momentum through the weekend, making it harder to follow and putting off more people from maintaining interest – both from a comfy sofa and at the track. Both Superbike races need to be on the Sunday – one to kick start proceedings, one to close proceedings.

It is more than just the Superbike races though. Any championship relies on its support classes, MotoGP pushes the Moto3 and Moto2 series’ just as much and they are not shying away from promoting future talent coming through the ranks in their own feeder series either, e.g. CoolFab or the British Talent Cup. World Superbikes NEEDS to start doing the same, with the Junior Supersport race immediately following the first WSBK outing, then World Supersport race one, European Superstock 1000 and then have a feeder series – where better to promote it than the world stage? After that, have a second Supersport race, maybe something a little bit longer than the first but nothing too long. End the day with World Superbikes and I’m sure that it will all feel a bit more natural.
