United Autosports confirm Richard Meins and Shaun Lynn for Prototype Cup

United Autosports have confirmed their second driver pairing for their three-car team at the inaugural British Prototype Cup, held at Snetterton on 8-9 October.

Richard Meins will team up with Shaun Lynn for the one-hour LMP3 race in Norfolk. Richard has previous racing history with United Autosports, having raced at the Macau GT Cup for five years from 2010-2014 with the team. He has also raced at the Spa 24 Hours twice (2011, 2012) as part of the United Autosports squad. Richard now specialises in historic racing, racing most recently at the Silverstone Classic in July.

Shaun Lynn will partner Richard in their Gulf-liveried Ligier JS P3. Shaun, like Richard, takes part in numerous historic races throughout the year, his most recent race being Le Mans Classic. Shaun has also raced at the Spa 6 Hours, Goodwood and Tour Auto over the years and raced in the 2011 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup at Spa, Imola and the legendary Le Mans circuit.

Both Richard and Shaun have tested the team’s LMP3 machine at separate test days at Donington Park and Snetterton. They will also attend United Autosports’ Ligier customer test on 3-4 October at Snetterton in the lead up to the Prototype Cup.

The Prototype Cup race weekend at Snetterton will feature a 30-minute practice session and 30-minute qualifying on Saturday, followed by a 20-minute warm up and 60-minute pit stop race on Sunday. There will also be a full calendar of British Prototype Cup races for 2017, with dates to be confirmed soon. The British Prototype Cup has adopted the rules and regulations from the Automobile Club De l’Ouest, who organise the European Le Mans Series.

Richard Meins, driver, United Autosports:

“I have driven various GT3 cars but the Ligier is a step further and a really exciting experience. It is such a responsive car with masses of grip and it looks great! The test at Donington was enough to convince me that historics might have to take a back seat for now. I’m really looking forward to the Prototype Cup in October and driving with Shaun. We have raced against each other for years but never together. Having Gulf Marine / GR Asia on board is the icing on the cake. Our relationship from Macau goes back many years and it is a privilege to have the Gulf colours on the car.”

Shaun Lynn, driver, United Autosports:

“I’m looking forward to racing the Ligier LMP3 car at Snetterton. I had a good test day with the team a few months back and loved it. I love my historic racing but I want to get more experience of racing modern race cars and this seems like the perfect chance to do that. The Prototype Cup seems like a great way to introduce drivers like myself into prototype racing.”

Richard Dean, Team Owner and Managing Director, United Autosports:

“It’s great to have Richard and Shaun join us for the Prototype Cup next month. They are both great racers so I’m sure they will do well at this event. Although an LMP3 car is new to both of them, they both loved it at their respective test days so fingers crossed they will have a good race weekend with us.”
